A Naples Sunday

As expected, yesterdays advertised estate sales were pretty lame, including the one with the enticing copy.  I turned up there to be told they wouldn't open until 9:00....annoying, but I was able to catch another sale also starting at 9:00.  Both sales were duds - but that is normal for this town in the summer.  Did get some consultancy work in the form of a contemporary painting which I need to research and put through auction for a client.  Consulting is where I am heading.

If I were 85 and from Ohio and enjoyed golf a little more and thought Newt was an upstanding candidate, I think I would feel more settled here.  The "lifestyle" purrs fat living.  Beaches, golf courses, good restaurants and even a couple of museums.  But alas, little or no Bohemian element.  Some brave souls made a stab at a live jazz coffee house a couple of years ago, but that's gone by the wayside.  Even the theater seems Midwestern. So the median resident age here is 60.7 (according to the City of Naples) and God bless 'em.  I'm not complaining; I know there are worse places to live.

On the docket today is tennis with my mate David.  We have fun and hurl abuse at each other for 2 1/2 hours.  He usually wins the first set but I usually come back in the next two sets.  Curiously I seem to have more stamina which is interesting as I smoke like a chimney and he doesn't.  Am contemplating a seminar in Miami today for voice-over work.  It's four hours and is basically an overview of the industry.  Let's see how I feel after tennis.  Two of my eBay items end today.  Hope they catch fire.
